Up for auction is an authentic late-19th-century cabinet card photograph featuring a portrait of a gentleman in a classic Victorian suit and bow tie. The photograph is professionally mounted on a heavy cardstock backing.

The front of the card features a crisp, clear portrait of a man with a mustache.

The bottom of the portrait is marked "Worcester Photo. Studio" and "Cooke's Block, Leominster, Mass."

The reverse side contains ornate graphic detailing and lists "John Kivlan, Proprietor and Manager."

The back also includes the historical mark, "NEGATIVES PRESERVED: Duplicates can be obtained at any time."

Historical Significance

This cabinet card offers a wonderful window into the history of Leominster, Massachusetts. Records indicate that the "Worcester Studio" was established in Leominster on September 1, 1888. The studio was co-owned by John Kivlan, a native of Princeton, Massachusetts. Kivlan was a notable local photographer whose work is represented in regional archives, including portraits of fraternal organizations like the Leominster Lodge of Elks and Court St. Cecelia. Cabinet cards were the height of portrait fashion from the 1870s through the 1890s, replacing the smaller "carte de visite" format.

Condition

Please refer to the photos provided for the physical condition of the item. The card shows vintage character consistent with its age, including minor edge wear and light surface toning, which adds to its authentic historical charm.
